Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk in People Living with Epilepsy

Background and Aim: Increase prevalence of cardiovascular morbidity mortality has been reported in people living with epilepsy (PWE) compared to the general population. This study was done assess risk PWE using Heart rate variability (HRV) Blood Pressure (BPV) techniques. Methods: Twenty-seven patients thirty age gender-matched healthy individuals were included control group, respectively. Basal parameters (heart rate-HR, systolic blood pressure- SBP, diastolic pressure-DBP), HRV indices, BPV recorded between group individuals. Results: Cardiovascular such as HR, DBP, pressure product, cardiac output total peripheral resistance significantly high Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) indicative parasympathetic drive (TP, SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50) low these While a significant negative observed TP, BHR positive TP BRS. Conclusion: Cardiac sympathovagal imbalance characterized increased sympathetic decreased activity evident PWE. These changes autonomic nervous system could predispose them morbidity.
